Bluetooth Low Energy 5.2 microcontroller targets IoT
The MAX32666 dual-core microcontroller from Maxim Integrated Products integrates Bluetooth BLE 5.2 wireless connectivity for internet of things (IoT) designs. Aimed at the IoT space, Maxim Integrated Products has launched a dual Arm Cortex-M4 MCU with floating-point unit (FPU) and Bluetooth Low Energy 5.2 (BLE 5.2). This extends battery life by combining robust memory, security, communications, power management and processing functions traditionally performed by multiple MCUs into a single device.

SwissCovid app gains ground
The SwissCovid app, developed by a team at EPFL, is the first in Europe to use Google and Apple application programming interfaces (API), allowing devices using Android and iOS operating systems to work together. The app uses Bluetooth Low Energy technology and encryption to record contact between smartphones that are within at least 1.5 metres of each other for a period of at least 15 minutes.

Linux Foundation expands into the fight against COVID-19
The Linux Foundation is joining the battle against COVID-19 with a program aimed at building on top of the foundational contact tracing work being done jointly by Google LLC and Apple Inc. The Linux Foundation Public Health initiative is launching with seven premier members and two hosted projects targeted at notifying public health officials of coronavirus exposure.
