Apple and Google’s contact tracing tech is barely used in the United States
Despite its quick turnaround in creating the technology, barely any states in the United States are planning on adopting Apple and Google’s Exposure Notification technology. Reported by Lawfare, the United States has decided to leave contact tracing apps to a state by state decision which has resulting in an inconsistent approach on what technology is used and if an app is built at all.
Bluetooth Low Energy 5.2 microcontroller targets IoT
The MAX32666 dual-core microcontroller from Maxim Integrated Products integrates Bluetooth BLE 5.2 wireless connectivity for internet of things (IoT) designs. Aimed at the IoT space, Maxim Integrated Products has launched a dual Arm Cortex-M4 MCU with floating-point unit (FPU) and Bluetooth Low Energy 5.2 (BLE 5.2). This extends battery life by combining robust memory, security, communications, power management and processing functions traditionally performed by multiple MCUs into a single device.
SwissCovid app gains ground
The SwissCovid app, developed by a team at EPFL, is the first in Europe to use Google and Apple application programming interfaces (API), allowing devices using Android and iOS operating systems to work together. The app uses Bluetooth Low Energy technology and encryption to record contact between smartphones that are within at least 1.5 metres of each other for a period of at least 15 minutes.
Linux Foundation expands into the fight against COVID-19
The Linux Foundation is joining the battle against COVID-19 with a program aimed at building on top of the foundational contact tracing work being done jointly by Google LLC and Apple Inc. Sharry Introduces Touch-Free Elevator System To Safeguard Office Visitors During COVID-19 Pandemic
Sharry, a Czech company that supplies smart solutions to state-of-the-art office buildings in Europe, the USA, and Africa, has developed a special solution for touch-free elevator control. This innovation contributes to countering the spread of COVID-19 and other diseases. Ondřej Langr, Sharry’s product manager, describes how this product works: “When a person passes through turnstiles on the ground floor, our system automatically calls an elevator set to stop on the floor where they work. If they miss the elevator or want to go to a different floor, they can simply use their mobile phone to choose the floor number.”
Sensoria Wellness Coach in IoT Smart Cushion for Wheelchair Users
Sensoria Health announced today that it completed development of the first IoT connected, comfortable and AI enabled cushion and software system designed for wheelchair users to reduce risk of ulceration. The fully functional smart cushion and mobile app prototype is currently being tested at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center in Los Angeles.
